Friends,
Last night I asked Bekki whether she received my Substack post entitled, “Pub day,” announcing the publishing and release of my book, Ptoxocracy. “Yes,” she said, “but I thought you were inviting me out for a drink.”
If you, like Bekki, were confused by yesterday’s Substack title, my deep apologies. Pub Day sounds like a fun activity, though…
The confusion did get me thinking of a favorite cover I’d recorded recently for a rainy day, entitled, I Hope That I Don’t Fall in Love With You by the great songwriter Tom Waits. It came to mind because, like a recording I did a few weeks back (Grace is Gone by DMB), the song takes place in a pub.
“Last call for drinks / I’ll have another stout… I search the place for your lost face / and I’ll have another round.” Mmmm. Beautiful stuff.
So, in honor of Pub days (that is, PUBLISHING days), pubs, and long loves lost at pubs, here’s another tune for you. This one is dedicated to the many many kindly folks who ordered Ptoxocracy yesterday. My deepest gratitude!
Peace,
Marcus
PS: If you’re in the San Diego area, mark your calendars for a book release party on Friday night, June 20. More details to come!
